THE WHAT; THE HADASSAH MS 3 PEAKS CHALLENGE. Along with several other crazies, I'm climbing the 3 highest peaks in the UK in 24 hours! With roughly 10 hours of driving between the 3, we’ve got 13 to fourteen hours to complete the 3 climbs.
THE WHERE; We start at Fort William with Ben Nevis, move on to Scafell Pike in the Lake District, and finish with Mt. Snowdon in North Wales.
THE WHEN; May 25, 2015
THE WHY; We are doing this to raise funds for Hadassah UK, and ultimately the Hadassah Medical Organisation in Jerusalem, which has achieved international recognition for its work in developing stem cell therapy to treat, and hopefully one day cure Multiple Sclerosis; Hadassah Medical Organisation has previously been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. Many of you will know someone with MS, the debilitating effect it has on their lives, and the strain it can place on their families. My late mother had MS for almost 40 years, and I have been raising funds for the MS Society and its related associations since I was 16 (I think that’s 47 years). This is the biggest challenge I've ever undertaken and I won’t succeed without your support. Whatever you’re able to contribute will be thankfully received and gratefully applied.
Hadassah UK is a UK Registered Charity dedicated to raising funds for the Hadassah Medical Organisation in Jerusalem and promoting its medical and scientific excellence. Hadassah UK supports Hadassah Medical Organisation in Jerusalem with specific projects to allow it to be an academic centre of excellence for healing, teaching, and research. Hadassah serves as a bridge to people and nations through medicine. Hadassah carries out over 50% of all the clinical research in Israel and publishes over twice as many research papers as ALL the other hospitals in Israel put together. The benefits of medicine should transcend politics, religion and national boundaries. The Hadassah Medical Organisation puts that philosophy into practice. Hadassah continually reaches out with emergency relief and specific rescue missions in the aftermath of natural and geopolitical crises. For example, our ongoing work in the AIDS orphanages of Ethiopia. Our doctors also regularly perform eye surgery in remote regions. In fact, we have been granted special consultative status as a non governmental organisation on the United Nations Economic and Social Council. Closer to home, a major focus is on bringing first class medical attention to our Palestinian neighbours. In addition to providing day-to-day health care, Hadassah Medical Organisation has launched a number of specific projects in partnership with The St John’s Eye Hospital, the Peres Centre for Peace, Augusta Victoria Hospital and the Red Crescent Hospital of Jerusalem. In recognition of our exemplary role in a troubled region, the Hadassah Medical Organisation was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize.
